Low-end means everything — it’s the foundation your entire track stands on, and when it’s wrong, nothing else in the mix can save it. 194dB Audio built Low End Max around a deceptively simple idea: let the producer choose the exact frequency the low end should live at, then make everything else serve that choice. The FREQ knob accepts precise Hertz values or musical note names like E1 and A0, so you can tune your bass to the key of your track the way you’d tune an instrument.
Under the hood, the newly developed processing does something conventional EQs can’t: it enhances the targeted frequency range while simultaneously suppressing the rest of the low end. Traditional low-end work means boosting with one EQ band and cutting with another, constantly chasing your tail as boosts in one area create mud in another. Low End Max handles both sides of that equation in a single process, so the low end you want comes forward and the low end you don’t want gets out of the way.
The envelope controls give you dynamic command over the result. Set your target level with the Target knob, then use Attack to control how quickly the processing reacts to transients, Release to govern how it lets go, Upward to expand quiet low-end detail upward without affecting peaks, and Ceiling to cap the maximum output. This is particularly powerful on 808s and sustained sub-bass, where static EQ settings can’t follow the performance — Low End Max breathes with your track.
The waveform visualizer deserves special attention. Low-end problems are notoriously hard to hear accurately on small monitors and headphones, which is exactly where most producers work. The visualizer shows you the true balance between kick and bass regardless of your room, and the reference track feature lets you load a professionally mixed song and see precisely how its low end is balanced. Match that shape in your own mix and you’ve solved translation problems before they start.
The full control set includes Resonance for emphasizing the target’s character, Pitch for shifting the focus musically, Solo for critical listening to the affected range, Boost for additional weight, and Mix, Gain, Zoom, and Blend for output-stage precision. The interface stays focused — every control earns its place, and the visual feedback means you’re never turning knobs blind.
194dB Audio is a developer obsessed with doing one thing exceptionally well rather than cloning existing hardware. Low End Max v1.1.2 (the current release, with stability improvements over v1.1) runs as VST3, AU, and AAX, 64-bit, on macOS 11 Big Sur or later (Intel and Apple Silicon native) and Windows 10 or later, with 8GB RAM recommended.
If you’ve ever finished a mix that sounded huge in your studio and fell apart everywhere else, the culprit was almost certainly the low end. Low End Max gives you the precision to get it right at the source.
