Product details
Some sounds are inseparable from the machines that made them. Roland understood this better than anyone, and the SYSTEM-8 & SYSTEM-1 Bundle is the company bottling that understanding as software. Both instruments run on ACB — Analog Circuit Behavior — modeling that recreates analog circuits component by component, capturing the nonlinearities and quirks that make hardware feel alive. Two synths, €39.99, and a direct line to the sound of electronic music history.
Two instruments, two personalities
The SYSTEM-8 is the deep one. Three oscillators, a full modulation matrix, chord memory for one-finger voicings, unison for stacked thickness, plus an arpeggiator and step sequencer that make it a self-contained pattern instrument. Its Plug-Out capability extends it further, letting it host Roland’s classic synth models — the architecture grows instead of aging.
The SYSTEM-1 is the immediate one. Four oscillators with a sub-oscillator and noise source give it weight from the first note, and the SCATTER function is pure performance energy — twist it and your sound fragments, stutters and re-sequences in real time. Dedicated filter and amp envelopes, an LFO section built for movement, and onboard delay and reverb complete a synth designed for sounds that are finished the moment you stop tweaking.
Why ACB matters
Most virtual analog is approximation: oscillators and filters that look right on a scope. ACB models the actual circuit behavior — how components interact, saturate and drift — which is where the musical difference lives. It is the reason these plugins respond to velocity, envelope settings and filter drive the way hardware does, and the reason patches keep revealing detail after weeks of use.
Production-ready in any DAW
Both plugins run as VST3, AU and AAX on macOS and Windows, authorized through Roland Cloud with offline options available. They load in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Pro Tools — wherever you make music — and behave like modern software instruments with vintage souls.
The bundle’s authorization through Roland Cloud supports both online and offline use, so studio machines that stay off the network are covered. Presets are plentiful on both instruments, and both respond fully to MIDI learn — every knob and switch can be mapped to your controller for hands-on sound design. For live performers, the SYSTEM-1’s SCATTER control and the SYSTEM-8’s pattern tools make the pair a compact stage rig as well as a studio duo.
