What Is Archetype: Petrucci X?

Archetype: Petrucci X is Neural DSP’s signature plugin for John Petrucci, capturing the Dream Theater guitarist’s complete rig in software: four amplifiers, his iconic wah, compression, pre and post effects, a cabsim/IR loader, and practice tools — for Mac and Windows, in the DAW or standalone, and compatible with Quad Cortex and Quad Cortex mini.

Amplifiers

• Piezo — for piezo pickups, emulating acoustic body resonance; excellent with single coils.
• Clean — rich and sonorous with a bright switch for clarity.
• Rhythm — thunderous and versatile; Tight knob, Bite switch and Bass interact with the gain structure.
• Lead — the spaceship: huge sustain and harmonic depth for lead work.

Clean, Rhythm and Lead each have their own 4-band semi-parametric EQ with high/low-pass filters.

Effects Chain

Front: wah (modelled on Petrucci’s iconic wah tone) and a dynamic compressor. Pre FX: Overdrive, Phaser/Vibe, Chorus, Flanger. Cabsim: impulse responses by Jimmy T (DTHQ), six positionable microphones, room mic blend, and loading of your own IRs. Post FX rack: Stereo Chorus (vintage/spatial), Stereo Delay (crossfeed, crystal and tape saturation modes), and a dark Reverb with celestial shimmer.

Tools

Transpose (±12 semitones), Doubler (simulated stereo double-tracking), live tuner at the bottom of the UI, MIDI-controllable volume, and a standalone metronome with time signature, accents and note values.
