ROLI Equator2

There is a moment every producer knows: you play a chord on a soft synth and it sounds correct but dead – every note identical, every repetition the same. ROLI Equator2 was built to kill that moment. It is a hybrid synthesizer where expression is not an afterthought but the architecture – six source modules combining wavetable, virtual-analog, sampling, granular and noise synthesis, all playable per-note through MPE. And it is 77% off.

An instrument that listens to your hands

Equator2’s MPE implementation tracks five dimensions for every single note: how hard you strike it, how you glide its pitch, where you slide on the Y-axis, how much you press, and how you lift off. Map slide to filter cutoff and press to wavetable position, and a simple chord becomes a performance – notes blooming and bending independently, the way a string section actually behaves.

You do not need ROLI hardware to feel this. Any MPE-capable controller opens the full instrument; with a standard keyboard you still get one of the deepest modulation systems in software – five envelopes, five LFOs, two Multi-Mod sources with custom curves, keytracking, math modifiers and random generators.

Six modules, one playground

Each of the six Source Modules can run as an oscillator, sampler, granular engine or noise source. The creative payoff is in the combinations: a virtual-analog bass with a granulated vocal texture drifting through it; a wavetable lead with sampled attack transients; noise shaped into percussion that melts into a pad. Route it all through filters and a full effects section and you have an instrument that covers scoring, electronic music, ambient and experimental work without breaking a sweat.

Why it matters for your music

Static sounds sit on top of a mix. Expressive sounds live inside it. Equator2 patches respond to velocity, pressure and gesture the way acoustic instruments respond to touch, which means your programmed parts stop sounding programmed. Film composers get evolving textures that breathe; electronic producers get leads with human imperfection; sound designers get a laboratory where every parameter can move.
